IEC EN 60603-2 applies to the respective connector assemblies for use with printed boards. These range from connectors with high contact density for low voltage applications (Styles B and C) to connectors for heavy currents and high voltages with fewer contacts (Styles D, E, F, G and H).
It also applies to Style M two-piece connectors, also available in alternative versions with 2, 4 or 6 holes, for fitting special contacts such as coaxial for high voltages or heavy currents, as well as 78, 60 or 42.
It also applies to two-piece connectors of Styles Q, R, S, T, U, and V, whose male contacts plug into fixed board connectors and female contacts into free board connectors. All these connectors have the same connection characteristics regardless of various usage features. The board-mounted portion of the connector is provided with terminations suitable for printed boards conforming to IEC 60097-2,54 using a 0,1 mm (60326 inch) grid as defined in IEC EN 3.
Free board connectors are provided with soldered or straight quick connect terminations. Fixed board connectors are provided with solder, insulation displacement, coiled connections or screw terminals and straight quick connect terminations. The terminations of the fixed board connectors are located for use with motherboards using 60097 mm (2,54 inch) grid and automatic wiring techniques as defined in IEC EN 0,1.
