This part of the International Standard IEC EN 60614 specifies the requirements for pipes of circular cross section for the protection of conductors or cables in electrical installations.
Ducts must be designed and constructed in such a way as to provide reliable mechanical protection of the conductors or cables contained within. Where applicable, the duct should also provide adequate electrical shielding. In addition, the pipe will withstand stresses likely to occur during transportation, storage, recommended installation practice, and use.
Unless otherwise stated, tubing will be considered non-specification if more failures occur in any of the tests than that of a sample. If a sample fails a test, that test and any previous tests that may have affected the result of that test should be repeated on another set of specified number of samples, all of which must be suitable for repeated testing.
The inner and outer surfaces of the ducts should be reasonably free of burrs, shine and similar defects; also, the edges of the conductors or cables that may be pulled should not damage these conductors or cables. Slight burrs from the manufacturing method are ignored unless they are likely to damage the insulated conductors.
