The spectral sensitivity of a photovoltaic device is used to correct for spectral mismatch if a PV device is calibrated in an installation where the measurement spectrum is different from the reference spectral radiation data given in IEC EN 60904-3 and is calibrated on a reference device with a different reference device. Spectral sensitivity is used to the device under test. This procedure is given in IEC EN 60904-7.
Generally, the spectral sensitivity of a photovoltaic device is measured under short circuit conditions (zero bias voltage) of the photovoltaic device and is used for cell analysis and calculation of spectral mismatch.
A bias voltage may need to be applied to measure the spectral sensitivity of the sample under a certain voltage. The bias voltage of the device must be controlled by an external voltage source. If a bias voltage is applied, it should be specified in the report.
