IEC EN 62148-1 Fiber Optic Active Components and Devices - Package and Interface Standards - Part 1: General Guide

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62148-1 testing. IEC EN 62148-1 aims to provide interchangeability in physical interfaces between fiber optic active components and devices supplied by different manufacturers, but does not guarantee operation between such devices.

IEC EN 62148-1 Fiber Optic Active Components and Devices - Package and Interface Standards - Part 1: General Guide

Fiber optic active components and devices are used to convert electrical signals to optical signals and vice versa. Optical performance criteria are generally well established for a number of internationally agreed application areas, for example referencing the ITU-T Recommendations from Working Group 15, Network Technologies and Infrastructures for Transport, Access and Home. Manufacturers using the standards are responsible for meeting the required performance or reliability and quality assurance under a recognized program.

This interface standard defines physical interfaces only and no performance guarantees are implied and should not be assumed. The optical interface should be chosen from those whose interchangeability is guaranteed by other IEC standards (eg IEC EN 61754 (all parts)).

Detailed drawings of the optical connector interface are not necessarily required when referring to the appropriate IEC standard. Where an optical connector is not standardized under the IEC system, full detailed drawings of the interface will be provided.

This interface is equipped with single or multiple optical signal sending ports or single or multiple optical signal receiving ports, where optical beam conditions such as optical axis directions, positions and three-dimensional beam energy profiles are specially designed to have a pre-engineered connection.

The electrical interface should be selected from those guaranteed interchangeability by other IEC standards (e.g. IEC EN 60130 (all parts), IEC EN 60191 (all parts), IEC EN 60603 (all parts), IEC EN 60807 (all parts), IEC EN 61076) .

Where the mechanical features for fixing active components and devices to the switchboard are available on the module, their location and dimensions should be specified in the drawings. Values and tolerances should be tabulated. These dimensions and tolerances will be consistent with the footprint.
