IEC EN 62150-5 Fiber Optic Active Components and Devices - Test and Measurement Procedures - Part 5: Wavelength Channel Tuning Time of Tunable Transmitters

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62150-5 testing. IEC EN 62150-5 specifies test and measurement procedures for the wavelength channel tuning time of tunable transmitters. It is applicable to the transmitting part of laser transmitters and transceivers. This procedure examines whether the device or module meets the proper performance specification.

IEC EN 62150-5 Fiber Optic Active Components and Devices - Test and Measurement Procedures - Part 5: Wavelength Channel Tuning Time of Tunable Transmitters

The method described in this standard uses optical filters to transfer the transition of the output wavelength to the transition of the optical power. This is because the transient response of the output wavelength before stabilization in the steady state of the target wavelength channel is too fast to be measured using a wavelength meter or an optical spectrum analyzer.

The tunable transmitter being tested may be a laser, a laser emitter, or a transmitter part of the transceiver that can select a specific output wavelength within a specific wavelength range. The adjustable transmitter under test must be kept at a certain temperature or humidity for the duration of the measurement.

To minimize uncertainty caused by the device under test, the output wavelength and optical power must be stable at a steady state during measurement. The stability of the output power during measurement should be less than one percent of the output power. In addition, the tunable transmitter tested will have repeatability in output power and wavelength.

The optical filter set is a combination of reconfigurable optical filters. It has two or more transmission passbands within the tuning range of the tunable transmitter. The transmission loss of each of the optical filters should be normalized over the wavelength range of interest. The optical filter set should reflect the channel spacing and spectral excursion of a particular network.

The control unit is used to set the tunable transmitter under test. The control unit generates a control signal in the form of a control message or a direct voltage or current signal. The output control signal must also be monitored and recorded. The wavelength channel tuning time can be calculated using the control unit.
