IEC EN 62631-3-11 Dielectric and Resistive Properties of Solid Insulating Materials - Part 3-11: Determination of Resistivity Properties (DC Methods) - Method for Impregnation and Coating Materials

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62631-3-11 test. IEC EN 62631-3-11 covers a test method for determining the volume resistance and volume resistance of electrical insulating materials by applying DC voltage. It covers materials described in IEC EN 60455-3-5, IEC EN 60464-3-1, IEC EN 60464-3-2 and similar products.

The materials applicable for this test are used to impregnate or coat coils made of enameled copper or aluminum wire to fix the coils, protect them from moisture, dirt and other environmental influences. The main field applications are electric motors, transformers and similar devices.

Additional electrical insulation is desirable but not necessary. In many cases, mechanical support, thermal and chemical resistance are more important. In particular, changes in resistivity with temperature or humidity are of great importance and must be known when designing a motor for operating conditions.

The method described in this standard is used for impregnation and coating materials. For other specific material types, other documents or the general method described in IEC EN 62631-3-1 may be more appropriate.

For an impregnation or coating material, the absolute value of the volume resistivity or resistivity is of little importance. More importantly, this value changes as a function of temperature or after immersion in water.

A very stable direct voltage source is required. This can be provided by batteries or a rectified and stabilized power supply. The required degree of stability is that the change in current due to any change in voltage is negligible compared to the current to be measured.

Three samples will be tested. The thickness of the coating should be measured at at least five points within the test area prior to application of the electrodes. Conductive silver paint is applied to the test area and dried according to the paint manufacturer's recommendations.
