This standard deals with combined passive infrared and microwave detectors used as part of burglar alarm systems installed in buildings. It includes four safety ratings and four environmental classes.
The detector's purpose is to detect the broad spectrum infrared radiation emitted by a burglar, emit microwave radiation and analyze the returning signals and provide the required range of signals or messages to be used by the rest of the intruder alarm system.
The number and scope of these signals or messages will be more extensive for systems specified in higher degrees. This international standard deals only with the requirements and tests for the detector. Other detector types are covered by other documents defined in the IEC 62642-2 series.
