UL 1685 Smoke Release Test for Electrical and Fiber Optic Cables

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of UL 1685 standard. This standard is a vertical tray fire test to determine values ​​for flame exposure, cable damage.

For a cable to be acceptable under the UL testing procedure, each of the following must be demonstrated:

• Cable character height will be less than 8 ft. 0 inches (244 cm) when measured from a distance. the lower part of the conduit according to Section 8.
• The total smoke emitted will be 95 m 2 or less.
• Peak smoke emission rate will be 0,25 m2/s or less.

The purpose of this test is to determine the flame spread and smoke characteristics of these cables in order to qualify them for limited smoke marking.

This test does not investigate the toxicity of combustion or decomposition products.

This test does not cover the structural requirements of the cable or any electrical, optical or other performance requirements for the cable.
