The IEC EN 60799 standard is a standard for the measurement methods of radiation emissions of electronic devices. This standard specifies methods of measurement of radiation produced by units to which electromagnetic radiation can be emitted during the operation of electronic devices.
Radiation emissions from electronic devices can cause electromagnetic pollution, and therefore measuring the emissions of these devices is important for controlling radiation emissions. The purpose of this standard is to provide a common method for the measurement of radiation emissions of electronic devices.
IEC EN 60799 specifies requirements for cable sets and interconnecting cable sets for household and similar general purpose equipment. It does not apply to cable sets for industrial purposes (with plugs and connectors according to IEC 60309) or cable extension sets.
Lanyard assemblies and interconnect cord assemblies must be designed and manufactured in such a way that their performance in normal use is reliable and does not present a hazard to the user or the environment. Where applicable, tests should be carried out to demonstrate compliance with the requirements set out in this standard.
Compliance with the requirements for plugs, connectors, plug connectors and cables is checked by tests specified in the relevant standards. During testing of a component, its effect on other components of the assembly is ignored. The rated voltage of the connector and cord should not be less than the rated voltage of the plug. For patch cord sets, the rated voltage of the connector and the plug connector will be the same.
Cable assemblies and interconnect cord assemblies that are not supplied with an appliance and whose plug or plug connector is not made by the same manufacturer shall also be marked with a name, trademark or identification mark.
