IEC EN 60332-1-3 Tests on Electrical and Fiber Optic Cables under Fire Conditions - Part 1-3: Procedure for Identifying Flame Droplets

With its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, EUROLAB provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60332-1-3 testing. IEC EN 60332-1-3 specifies a test procedure for the evaluation of falling flame droplets/particles when a single vertical electrically insulated conductor or cable or fiber optic cable is exposed to defined fire conditions.

IEC EN 60332-1-3 Tests on Electrical and Fiber Optic Cables under Fire Conditions - Part 1-3: Procedure for Identifying Flame Droplets

IEC EN 60332-1-3 specifies the use of a 1 kW premixed flame, except that the specified procedure may not be suitable for testing small single insulated conductors for general use or cables with a total cross-section less than 0,5 mm² as the conductor melts before the test is completed, or It is for testing small fiber optic cables as the cable breaks before the test is complete.

Performance requirements for a particular type or class of insulated conductor or cable should preferably be given in the separate cable standard. The insulated conductor or cable should pass the test if the filter paper did not ignite during the test period. If a failure is registered, two more tests must be performed. If both tests pass, the insulated conductor or cable is considered to have passed the test.

Two pieces of filter paper (300 ±10) mm × (300 ±10) mm, metal screen should be placed flat on the bottom of the metal enclosure, one on top of the other. Scale. The filter papers should be positioned centrally under the test piece.

Prior to testing, all test pieces should be conditioned at (50 ± 20)°C for a minimum of 16 hours at (23 ± 5%) relative humidity. In the case of an insulated conductor or cable with a topcoat or lacquer, this conditioning should follow an initial period during which the test piece is kept at (4 ± 60)°C for 2 hours.
