IEC EN 60335-2-60 relates to the safety of electric whirlpool baths and whirlpool spas for indoor use, for household and similar purposes, with a rated voltage of not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances.
This standard also applies to appliances used for air or water circulation in conventional bathrooms. Appliances that are not intended for normal household use but which may nevertheless be a source of danger to the public, such as those intended for use by lay persons in hotels, gymnasiums and the like, fall within the scope of this standard. To the extent practicable, this standard addresses the common hazards presented by appliances, which are faced by all persons in and around the home.
It is noted that additional requirements may be required for devices intended for use in vehicles or ships or aircraft. This standard does not apply to equipment used for water circulation in swimming and movement exercise pools; cleaning tools for swimming pools; medical devices or devices intended for use where special conditions apply, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapor or gas).
This standard recognizes the internationally accepted level of protection of devices against hazards such as electrical, mechanical, thermal, fire and radiation when operated in normal use, taking into account the manufacturer's instructions. It also covers abnormal situations that can be expected in practice and considers how electromagnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of devices.
