IEC EN 60352-8 is applicable to compression mounting connections with metallic spring contacts for use in telecommunications equipment and other electronic devices using similar techniques.
Material information and data from industrial experience have been incorporated in addition to testing procedures to ensure electrically stable connections under prescribed environmental conditions. The purpose of this part of IEC EN 60352 is to provide a means for determining the suitability of compression assembly connections under specified electrical, mechanical and atmospheric conditions and for comparing test results when the tooling used to make the connectors is of different designs or manufacture.
Mounting tools for a compression mount connector in a printed wiring panel shall be specified in the detailed specification. When using a screwdriver the torque will be specified in the detail specification. If any special tools are required, tooling instructions will be provided by the manufacturer.
Unless otherwise stated, all tests shall be carried out under standard atmospheric conditions for testing as specified in IEC 60512-1. The ambient temperature and relative humidity where measurements are made will be stated in the test report. In case of disagreement about the test results, the test will be repeated under one of the arbitral conditions of IEC 60068-1.
The test is to examine the successful assembly of compression mount contacts against mechanical stress during the assembly process of compression mount connectors on a printed wiring board.
