A defined set of sizes has been chosen to fulfill this requirement. Using these dimensions, it should be easy to combine instruments of different sizes on the same panel, making good use of available panel space and creating a satisfactory layout.

Applies to the following instrument types with protruding bezels:

  • Square body tools;
  • Laterally oriented rectangular body tools;
  • Rectangular bodied instruments with vertical orientation;
  • Tools with a round body and a square frame;
  • Instruments with a round body and a rectangular frame.

The purpose of this standard is to establish dimensional interchangeability between tools made by different manufacturers. A defined set of sizes has been chosen to fulfill this requirement. Using these dimensions, it should be easy to combine instruments of different sizes on the same panel, making good use of available panel space and creating a satisfactory layout.

The tool size serves as a basis for defining the various dimensions that allow tool interchangeability. Only positive tolerances are allowed for discharge dimensions and only negative tolerances for tool size.

Square-bodied and rectangular-bodied devices are usually installed close together in a common hole. In these cases, the dimensions of the hole depend on the number and dimensions of the devices, as well as the protrusion of the frames of the devices at the two ends of the group.

On each side, the enclosure of the instrument shall have a clearance of at least 48 mm from the 0,2 mm cutout or at least 0,5 mm for all other instrument. The maximum value of this gap should be such that the tool finds a position where the gap is not visible.
