IEC EN 62271-4 High Voltage Switchgear and Control Equipment - Part 4: Insulation or Switching - Transport Procedures for Gases

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62271-4 testing. This part of IEC EN 62271 applies to procedures for the transport of gases and gas mixtures for installation, commissioning, repair, general maintenance, insulation or switching during normal and abnormal operations, and for the disposal of high-voltage switchgear at the end of its useful life.

These procedures are considered minimum requirements to ensure the reliability of electrical power equipment, the safety of people working with these gases and gas mixtures, and to minimize the impact on the environment. Additional requirements may be given or specified in the manufacturer's operating instruction manual.

For gases or gas mixtures not covered by these annexes, the electrical power equipment manufacturer must provide the necessary information by following the structure of these annexes. Such gases or gas mixtures should also be disclosed in the next edition or in any amendments to this edition.

This clause covers the different stages in which electrical power equipment is dismantled at the end of its life. From an environmental point of view, this is an important stage in a product's life cycle.

The amount of by-products in an electrical power equipment depends on the amount of SF6 and the cumulative arc energy applied over its lifetime depending on the amount and type of adsorbers. Cumulative arc energy depends on the function and service history of the equipment in question. A load break switch will contain much smaller amounts of by-products than a high breaking capacity circuit breaker with a history of frequent fault clearing.
