IEC 60068-2-10 Test

IEC 60068-2-10 provides a test method for determining the extent to which electrotechnical products promote mold growth and how any mold growth can affect the product's performance and other relevant properties.

IEC 60068-2-10 Test

During the IEC 60068-2-10 tests, the test is applicable to electrotechnical products intended to be transported, stored and used under humid conditions for a period of at least a few days, as mildew conditions involve high relative humidity.

The main changes compared to the previous edition are listed below:

  • Two test mushrooms have been replaced by two other mushrooms
  • Concentration of spores identified for each test fungus
  • Additionally added spore suspension in mineral salt solution
  • Storage where the samples are preconditioned with moist heat
  • Supersonic aerosolization of spore suspension introduced as the preferred method of inoculation
  • Incubation time reduced from 84 days to 56 days
  • Scope of mold growth grade 2 divided into grade 2a and grade 2b
  • Detailed information on vaccination methods given in the old version (Annex B)
  • The old version (Appendix E: flowchart) was deleted.

Along with conformity assessment, the IEC publishes approximately 10.000 IEC International Standards that provide the technical framework that allows governments to build national quality infrastructure and enable companies of all sizes to consistently buy and sell safe and reliable products in many countries around the world. The IEC International Standards are the basis for risk and quality management and are used in testing and certification to verify that manufacturer promises are kept.
