IEC 60507 Artificial Pollution Tests on High Voltage Ceramic and Glass Insulators to be Used in AC Systems

IEC 60507 is applicable to the determination of the power frequency withstand characteristics of ceramic and glass insulators that will be exposed to outdoor and polluted atmospheres in ac systems with the highest voltage of the system greater than 1000V.

IEC 60507 Artificial Pollution Tests on High Voltage Ceramic and Glass Insulators to be Used in AC Systems

It can be directly applied to polymeric insulators, lubricated insulators or special types of insulators (semiconductor glazed or coated with any organic insulating material).

The purpose of this international standard is to specify procedures for artificial contamination tests applied to insulators and bushings for overhead lines, substations and traction lines. It can also be applied to hollow insulators with appropriate precautions to prevent internal flashing.

When applying these procedures to apparatus containing hollow insulators, the relevant technical committees should consider their effects on any internal equipment and any special precautions that may be required.

This edition includes the following important technical changes from the previous edition:

  • Additions of corrections and explanatory materials;
  • Addition of the article on atmospheric correction;
  • Change of the upper conductivity limit of water to 0.1 S/m;
  • Extension of UHV voltages.
