IEC 60575 Thermal - Mechanical Performance Test on Array Isolator Units

This test has an initial phase of thermal cycles along with mechanical loading and unloading and the final phase of testing the insulating units for failure. The final stage is the same as an ordinary electromechanical or mechanical fault load test to be performed according to IEC publication 383. Such a fault load test is the basis for thermal-mechanical performance testing in evaluating test results.

During the first phase of the test, insulating units shall be subjected to four 24-hour cooling and heating cycles and a tensile load equal to 60% of the specified electromechanical or mechanical failure load. Tensile load will be applied to the insulating units at room temperature before the first thermal cycle is started.

Unless otherwise agreed, each 24-hour cycle will include cooling to -30 ± 5 °C and heating to +40 ± 5 °C. The temperature figures refer to the surrounding air. The temperature sequence will be cooling first, then heating. The test equipment shall be such as to allow each of the minimum and maximum temperatures to be maintained for at least four consecutive hours of the temperature cycle.

The tensile load will be completely removed and reapplied towards the end of each heating period, except for the last one.
