This technical specification gives the procedure and rules for the extended application of test results performed according to the test methods described in EN 50399, EN 60332-1-2 and EN 61034-2.
The defined EXAP rules apply to the EN 50399 test results used for classification. Classes B2ca, Cca and Dca, additional smoke production classes s1, s2 and s3 and flaming droplets-particles are used for classification according to EN 60332 1, 2 test results in classes B2ca, Cca, Dca and Eca and according to EN 61034.
Cables with a diameter of 5,0 mm and less must be tested in bundles according to EN 50399 and are excluded. Included cables are not included in the EXAP rules applied to EN 50399 test results. The rules apply to circular and non-circular cables covered by the relevant test method.
A special EXAP rule has been developed for the most common general power cable families and optical fiber cables. A general EXAP rule has been developed for any power cord family. The general EXAP rule does not apply to communication or fiber optic cables.
Using the specific EXAP rule provides benefits in fewer cables to be tested for a range of cable structures (product families). EXAP is only possible when cables belong to a defined family as defined in this Technical Specification.
Since the parameters (pH and conductivity) for each cable in a family are determined based on calculation using material test results, this is considered a direct application matter. Material test results from any finished cable sample from a family are sufficient to calculate parameters for each cable in the family.
