EN 61238-1 Compression and Mechanical Connectors for Power Cables, Part 1: Test Methods for Compression and Mechanical Connectors for Power Cables

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 61238-1 test standard. This part of EN 61238 applies to compression and mechanical connectors for power cables with rated voltages up to 1 kV (Um = 1,2 kV).

This standard does not apply to connectors for overhead line conductors or to sliding contact connectors. The purpose of this standard is to define type testing methods and requirements applied to compression and mechanical connectors for power cables with copper or aluminum conductors. The reference method is to conduct tests on unused conductors.

While the purpose of the electrical and mechanical tests specified in this standard is to prove the suitability of connectors for most operating conditions, it should be emphasized that they are not necessarily valid for situations where a connector can be raised to high temperature.

The tests in this standard may need to be supplemented with specific tests agreed between the supplier and the purchaser where connection to a high grade facility, corrosive conditions or where the connector is subjected to external mechanical stresses such as excessive vibration, shock and large displacement after installation.
