IEC EN 50281-1-2 provides guidance on the selection, installation and maintenance of apparatus. Ignition protection is based on limiting the maximum surface temperature of the enclosure and limiting the ingress of dust into the enclosure by the use of dustproof or dustproof enclosures.
Devices covered by this standard may be subject to additional requirements in other publications; eg EN 50014, Electrical equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres. The principles of this standard may also be followed when combustible fibers or volatile matter present a hazard. This standard does not apply to explosive powders or pyrophoric substances that do not require atmospheric oxygen for combustion. This Standard does not apply to electrical equipment used in mines susceptible to firestorm; Nor does it take into account any risk caused by the emission of flammable or toxic gases from dust. This standard does not include other types of protection and applies only to protection by enclosure and temperature limitation.
