Fiber optic modules are used to convert electrical signals to optical signals and vice versa. This standard covers the physical interface for an SC 1x9 fiber optic module. This fiber optic module is designed for use with the SC duplex fiber optic connector specified in IEC EN 61754-4. This fiber optic module is designed for use with punched printed circuit board applications.

This standard defines a generic electro-optical mezzanine board for the test and measurement of micro-optical and micro-photonic devices, including but not limited to transceivers, switches, sensors, and a wide variety of photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technologies. The size and shape of the card allows two mezzanine cards to be mounted side-by-side on a larger Eurocard form factor female card that can itself be inserted into and powered by a backplane system. Alternatively, each mezzanine board can be operated alone, for example, on a lab bench powered by a bench source.

The purpose of this generic mezzanine concept is to allow similar comparative characterization of the devices under test (DUTs) relative to each other and to measure the performance of DUTs in larger test environments relevant to their intended application, such as data. The mezzanine PCB will be designed to accommodate very high speed electronic signals and high speed electronic signal interface, enabling external test equipment such as test pattern generators, bit error rate testers and communication signal analyzers to operate the device under test (DUT).
