IEC EN 62642-2-3 Alarm Systems - Part 2-3: Intrusion Detectors - Standard Test Method for Microwave Detectors

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62642-2-3 testing. This part of IEC EN 62642 is for microwave detectors installed in buildings. This standard does not contain requirements for microwave detectors intended for outdoor use. Additional functions to the mandatory functions specified in this standard may be included in the detector, provided that they do not affect the correct operation of the mandatory functions.

IEC EN 62642-2-3 Alarm Systems - Part 2-3: Intrusion Detectors - Standard Test Method for Microwave Detectors

This standard deals with microwave detectors (referred to as detectors) used as part of burglar alarm systems installed in buildings. It includes four degrees of security and four environmental classes. The purpose of a detector is to analyze the signals sent back to emit microwave radiation and detect an intruder, and to provide the necessary range of signals or messages to be used by the rest of the intruder alarm system.

Unless otherwise specified for operational testing, the detector will not generate unintentional intrusion, tampering, errors, or other signals or messages when exposed to the specified range of environmental conditions. For durability tests, the detector must continue to meet the requirements of this standard after being subjected to the specified range of environmental conditions.

Detection tests require an enclosed, unobstructed area that allows the manufacturer's claimed coverage pattern to be tested. The test area should be large enough that reflections do not significantly affect the microwave coverage pattern.

Make sure the detector is protected from possible sources of microwave reflection during testing. This can be achieved by covering the receiver aperture of the detector with a material that is impermeable to microwave energy and will not interfere with the intended conditioning. The effect on any anti-masking sensors needs to be considered when choosing a suitable material or method.
