IEC EN 62821-2 Electrical Cables - Halogen Free - Low Smoke - Thermoplastic Insulated and Sheathed Cables with Rated Voltages up to 450-750 V - Part 2: Test Methods

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62821-2 testing. IEC EN 62821-2 specifies test methods specific to insulated and sheathed cables with rated voltages up to and including 450/750 V, based on halogen-free, thermoplastic compounds, and with low emission of smoke and corrosive gas when exposed to fire.

Exact test conditions (temperatures, times, etc.) and exact test requirements are not specified in this standard. They are intended to be specified in the standard for the relevant cable type. Any test requirements given in this standard may be modified by the relevant cable standard to suit the needs of a particular cable type.

For cables up to five cores, each core should be tested. For multicore cables with more than five cores, one core of each color in the cable will be tested, and where the number of colors is less than 5, bicolor cores will be tested as necessary to increase the number of cores tested to one.

This test is to demonstrate the effect of water on the mechanical properties of the sheath by determining the tensile strength and elongation at break of the coating materials in the unconditioned condition in which they are produced and in the conditioned condition after immersion. Tensile tests on conditioned and unconditioned test pieces should be performed in immediate succession.

Prepare a 5 m cable sample by carefully removing it from a completed cable length without damaging the cores, sheath or overall braid and any other sheathing or padding. In the case of straight, unsheathed cord, make a cut in the insulation between the cores and manually separate the cores 2 m long.
