This standard deals with the hazards posed by tools that are faced by all persons in the normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse of tools. Power tools that can be mounted on a support or workbench for use as a stationary tool without any modification to the tool itself are within the scope of this standard and such a combination of a hand tool and a support is considered.
This part of IEC EN 62841 does not apply to connectors. Used primarily for trimming the edges of materials, routers are also known as trimmers. Routers used to cut various materials through rotary motion are also known as rotary cutters.
A test pin of the largest collet size is mounted on the tool. A mark is made (10 ± 1) mm around the test pin from the collet. The distance between the defined measuring point and the mark on the test pin must be at least 120 mm. The measurement should be made as chain distance.
The instrument is placed in its most unfavorable position with its base on a plane inclined at 10° to the horizontal. If there is a cable or cord, it should stand in the most inconvenient position on the inclined plane. The tool is prevented from slipping for testing.
