IEC EN 63044-4 Home and Building Electronics Systems (HBES) and Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS) - Part 4: Testing for Products Intended to Integrate

This standard does not provide for data protection and security-related requirements.

This standard specifies installation, control, operation and failure mode procedures to improve the functional safety of devices installed in homes and buildings. A device will operate safely if it does not cause any harm while operating and performing its intended task. Such devices may not operate safely due to installation or control issues.

The increasing use of home and building networks to interconnect devices poses additional challenges to maintaining functional security due to possible device interactions. Therefore, this standard addresses the risks of connecting devices to a home or building network that provides data exchange and remote control within the home or building.

Also, if the home or building network is connected to a public network, control from remote locations may be possible. Such control messages can come from a smartphone application, be sent via a mobile phone network, routed to a building gateway, and sent to a device communication interface via a home or building network. Therefore, there are many opportunities for such messages to be compromised. Remote access creates additional threats to functional security discussed in this document.
