Directive 2012/19/EU published by the European Parliament and the Council contains principles on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). The said directive describes measures to protect the environment and human health by preventing or reducing the negative effects of waste generation and management from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), reducing the overall effects of resource use and increasing the efficiency of such use on the environment. This directive also contributes to sustainable development in accordance with Directive 2008/98/EC.
This directive must be applied without prejudice to the requirements of the European Union legal regulations regarding safety and health regarding chemicals, in particular the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) directive.
