IEC 61439-1 Low Voltage Switchgear and Controllers - Standard Test for General Rules

IEC 61439-1 sets out general definitions and service conditions, construction requirements, technical specifications and verification requirements for low voltage switchgear and controlgears.

In order to determine the mounting conformity, the requirements of the relevant part of the IEC 61439 series are applied together with the stated requirements of this standard from part 2. For installations not covered by Chapter 3, chapter 2 applies.

This edition includes the following important technical changes from the previous edition:

• Statement that power-to-electric converter systems, switched-mode power supplies, uninterruptible power supplies, and adjustable-speed power drive systems have been tested to their specific product standards, but that when included in assemblies, the assembly complies with the IEC 61439 series standards;
• Introducing a set of rated currents for circuits in a loaded assembly and refocusing the temperature rise verification on this new characteristic;
• Addition of DC related requirements;
• Introducing the concept of class I and class II apparatus for protection against electric shock.
