IEC 60335-2-59 Household and Similar Electrical Appliances, Safety, Part 2-59: Special Rules Test Standard for Insecticides

IEC 60335-2-59 deals with the safety of electric insecticides for household and similar purposes, with a rated voltage of not more than 250 V, including devices with direct current (DC) supply and battery-operated devices.

Appliances that may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances not intended for normal household use but still intended for use by ordinary people in shops, light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard.

This standard deals, as far as possible, with the common hazards presented by appliances, which are faced by all persons in and around the home.

However, in general:

• Persons (including children) with physical, sensory or mental abilities; or lack of experience and knowledge prevents them from using the device safely without supervision or instruction;
• Additional requirements may be required for devices intended for use in vehicles or ships or aircraft;
• In many countries, additional requirements are set by national health authorities, national authorities responsible for labor protection and similar authorities.

For appliances equipped with discharge lamps or tungsten filament lamps, IEC 60598-1 also applies to the extent reasonable.
