IEC EN 50525-3-31 applies to unsheathed single core cables insulated with a halogen-free thermoplastic compound and have low emission of smoke and corrosive gas when exposed to fire. Low smoke emission is controlled according to EN 61034-2. The low emission of corrosive gases is controlled as part of the absence of halogens control.
There are two types for 450/750 V rated cables, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 2 cables must meet a more demanding resistance to flame propagation. Than type 1, and particularly suitable for installation in bundles. The cables are designed for fixed wiring applications. The maximum conductor operating temperature for each of the cables in this standard is 70°C.
Each cable shall comply with the appropriate requirements given in IEC EN 50525-1 and the specific requirements of this Part. When tested according to the method and procedure given in IEC EN 61034-2, all cable sizes will exceed 60% light transmission throughout the test.
