This part of IEC EN 60512 is used to test connectors under IEC technical committee 48 when detail (product) specification requires. The purpose of this standard is to detail a standard test method for assessing the robustness of the actuation lever of a connector mating or release mechanism.
Unless otherwise specified, the sample shall be assembled normally using the normal panel or chassis section specified in the detail (product) specification. The panel or chassis must be strong enough to handle the applied forces. The length and width of the panel or frame must be sufficiently long and wider than the contour of the specimen.
Applying a torque around its axis is not the intended use of the actuation lever of a mating/release mechanism of a connector. The purpose of this test is to verify its robustness against reasonably foreseeable misuse.
A connector sample or similar device must be equipped with a coupling/release mechanism (latching/locking) including an operating lever. The number of samples to be prepared will be as specified in the detail (product) specification.
