IEC EN 61207-3 Gas Analyzers - Test for Paramagnetic Oxygen Analyzers

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61207-3 testing. IEC EN 61207-3 applies to three main methods for measuring oxygen according to its paramagnetic property summarized in the introduction.

IEC EN 61207-3 Gas Analyzers - Test for Paramagnetic Oxygen Analyzers

It considers basic auxiliary units and applies to analyzers installed indoors and outdoors. Security-critical applications may require additional requirements from system and analyzer features not covered by this standard.

The purpose of this standard is:

  • To state the terminology and definitions regarding the functional performance of paramagnetic gas analyzers for the measurement of oxygen in a source gas;
  • To combine the methods used to make statements regarding the functional performance of such analyzers and to verify them;
  • Indicate what tests are done to determine functional performance and how these tests are done;
  • To provide essential documents to support the implementation of internationally recognized quality management standards.

Paramagnetic oxygen analyzers respond to partial pressure, not volumetric concentration. They are used in a wide variety of industrial, laboratory and other applications where the nominal measuring range of the analyzer is from 0% to 1% and from 0% to 100% at reference pressure.

Only a few gases show paramagnetism (for example, oxygen, nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide). Oxygen has a particularly strong paramagnetic susceptibility. Using this particular property of oxygen, analyzers have been designed that can be quite specific to the measurement, for example in most industrial applications where high background levels of hydrocarbons may be present.

To improve performance reliability, samples should be provided within the nominal range of the sample dew point. Also, if the measurement is made on a wet basis compared to a dry basis, there will be differences in the stated value.
