Type tests aim to verify the main characteristics of a grease, which mainly depend on its composition. It is performed once for a supplier's specific product and then repeated when the composition of the grease changes.
The grease supplier must provide a unique identifier for its grease and will retain details of its composition for future reference. The composition will include manufacturing tolerance and will remain unchanged while the grease is marketed under this specific identifier.
The product should be heated at 10°C to 20°C above the temperature at which melting occurs and held at this temperature for 30 minutes. To perform the tests, the required amount should be poured into test containers and allowed to cool at ambient temperature for at least 24 hours.
