IEC EN 61857-31 establishes an EIS rating for applications with a designed life of 5000 hours or less. This test method follows IEC 60505 procedures and is modified according to the designed life range.
The thermal classification is evaluated and established when there are no failed test objects and there is no deterioration in the EIS before the specified number of hours is collected. With a single accumulated data point, projection is not needed or done. The expected lifetime of the application is reached before the failure of the EIS subjected to thermal aging.
If any sample has a fault in the EIS before the selected number of hours has been collected, the TE will be determined using the mean lifetime (AL) of the set of test objects. AL is calculated according to the procedure given in IEC EN 61857-1.
To build a model, the life of the set of test objects aged at the higher aging temperature must be completed. The lower temperature set can be completed or stopped before it gets old. The TE value is a prudent value when the higher aging temperature is completed, while the lower aging temperature is discontinued.
Use test results from both aging temperatures. Project the results using both result sets and project according to the required time coordinate.
