This standard specifies test methods and performance requirements for electrical equipment for the detection of flammable gases designed for continuous operation in a fixed installation in recreational vehicles and similar buildings.
This standard specifies devices designed to operate in the event of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or petroleum (gasoline) vapors escaping and to provide an actuation action in the form of a visual and audible alarm and an actuating output signal.
This standard also covers apparatus for detecting petroleum vapors in applications where petroleum is used as a fuel, such as in the bilges of boats. It does not apply to the detection of diesel fuel vapor.
The flammable gas detection requirements defined in EN 50194-1 apply equally to gasoline vapor detectors. In this standard, there are conditions covering all apparatus. Additional application-specific requirements apply to certain groups of recreational vehicles, such as boats. An apparatus that meets the requirements for recreational boats will automatically also comply with the requirements for motorhomes and caravans. An apparatus that fits the motorhome requirements will automatically also fit the motorhome requirements. The apparatus is designed for continuous operation.
The apparatus will reliably detect the presence of flammable gas in recreational vehicles under specified application conditions, generate an alarm and initiate execution operations when the level exceeds the alarm set point.
