EN 62208 applies to blank enclosures prior to incorporation of switchgear and control device components by the user, as provided by the enclosure manufacturer.
This standard specifies the general definitions, classifications, specifications and test requirements for enclosures with a rated voltage not exceeding 1000 V ac or 1500, to be used as part of assemblies of switchgear and control gear (for example, according to the IEC 61439 series).
The thermal power dissipation capacity data is a function of the allowable temperature inside the enclosure. These will be provided for the different installation methods of the switchboard (eg flush mounting, surface mounting) and the design of the switchboard, ie with or without ventilation openings and the number of horizontal partitions. These should include at least the temperature rise at the top of the enclosure and the temperature rise of the outer surfaces for a given power loss within the enclosure. This will provide the user with the correct data for enclosure selection according to the electrical equipment to be installed.

The means and location of enclosure assembly should be defined in the enclosure manufacturer's documentation. The location of equipment mounting surfaces and their fixing ways should be defined in the enclosure manufacturer's documentation.
When necessary, the correct location and installation of the lifting and transport support and the thread size of the lifting devices, if any, should be given in the enclosure manufacturer's documentation or instructions on how the enclosure should be used.
