When a rated voltage is specified, the open-circuit voltage at the measuring terminals must not differ from the rated voltage by more than 10% of the rated voltage. Where a rated voltage is specified across a given test resistance value, the voltage must not differ from the rated voltage by more than 10% of the rated voltage.
Where a maximum (or minimum) value is specified, it must not exceed (or be less than) the specified voltage at any allowable supply voltage and any setting of user-accessible controls and settings.
Battery-using ohmmeters will operate correctly when the batteries have any voltage and internal resistance values within the ranges specified by the manufacturer. With the presets specified by the manufacturer, any changes due to changes in battery characteristics will not cause the device to display an indication outside of its accuracy class.
Continuous use ohmmeters must meet accuracy requirements after being connected to the open circuit any time after completion of the specified preconditioning period, if any. They must likewise comply with accuracy requirements after being connected to a short circuit.
