IEC EN 60352-4 Solderless Connections - Part 4: Inaccessible Insulation Displacement (ID) Connections - General Requirements - Test Methods

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60352-4 testing. This part of IEC EN 60352 applies to inaccessible ID connections where the tests and measurements in part 3 are appropriate and are made with:

IEC EN 60352-4 Solderless Connections - Part 4: Inaccessible Insulation Displacement (ID) Connections - General Requirements - Test Methods

  • Properly designed identity terminations;
  • Wires with solid round conductors of nominal diameter from 0,25 mm to 3,6 mm;
  • Wires with stranded conductors with a cross section of 0,05 mm² to 10 mm².

In addition to test procedures, information on materials and data from industrial experience are included to ensure electrically stable connections under anticipated environmental conditions.

There are different designs and materials for ID terminations in use. Therefore, the performance requirements of the cable and the entire connection are specified in full, while only the basic parameters of the termination are specified.

The quality of an ID connection depends on the dimensions of the ID termination, particularly its seat and beams, and the properties of the materials used.

The contact area of the termination shall be coated with tin or tin-lead or silver, gold, palladium or their alloys. The surface must be free of harmful impurities or corrosion.

The detailed specification of the ID termination will specify the outside diameter of the wire insulation that can be placed. The insulation material will be PVC or any other material with properties suitable for insulation displacement, that is, it will have the property of being an insulating material.

All tests must be performed with CAD contacts and CAD connections under normal operating conditions, for example in their sockets. When a contact is designed to accept more than one CAD connection, each connection must be tested individually.
