IEC EN 60968 specifies, together with test methods and conditions, the safety and interchangeability requirements required to demonstrate the suitability of tubular fluorescent and other gas-discharge lamps (self-ballasted lamps) with integrated means for checking operation and stable operation.
These lamps are for domestic and similar general lighting purposes, with a rated voltage of 50 V to 250 V, a rated frequency of 50 Hz or 60 Hz and with caps conforming to IEC EN 60061-1. For a lid holder system not specifically specified in this standard, the information regarding safety-related tests provided by the manufacturer shall apply.
Lamps should be constructed without any additional housing in the form of a luminaire, in such a way that no internal metal parts, external metal parts with basic insulation, or live metal parts of the lamp cover or the lamp itself are accessible when the lamp is installed.
Insulation resistance and electrical power will be sufficient between the live parts of the lamp and the accessible parts of the lamp. During the test, the supply contacts of the cover were short-circuited. The accessible parts of the lamp are completely covered with metal foil. Care should be taken to place the metal foil in such a way that there is no skipping at the edges.
Self-ballasted lamps shall be sufficiently resistant to heat. The outer parts of the insulating material protecting against electric shock and the parts of the insulating material holding the live parts in place shall be sufficiently resistant to heat.
