IEC EN 62053-21 Electrical Measuring Equipment - Special Requirements - Part 21: Static Meters Test Standard for AC Active Energy

IEC EN 62053-21 applies only to static watt-hour meters with accuracy classes 50, 60 and 0,5 for the measurement of alternating current electrical active energy in 1 Hz or 2 Hz networks, and only for their type testing.

This standard applies to electrical measuring equipment designed for:

• Measuring and controlling electrical energy in electrical networks (network) with a voltage of up to 1000 V AC;
• Enclosed in all functional elements except display screens or forming a single meter box, including additional modules;
• Works with or without integrated or standalone instrumentation displays;
• It can be installed in a specific matching socket or rack;
• Optionally, it provides additional functions beyond the measurement of electrical energy.

Meters designed to operate with low-power instrument transformers (LPITs defined in the IEC 61869 series) may be tested for compliance with this standard only if such meters and their LPITs are tested together and meet the requirements of directly connected meters.

This section is a standard for type testing of electricity meters. It covers specific requirements for meters used in large quantities worldwide, indoors and outdoors. It does not deal with special applications (such as gauges and/or indicators in separate enclosures).

Test levels are considered to be the minimum values ​​that allow the meter to function properly under normal operating conditions. Additional test levels may be required for specific applications and are subject to an agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser.
