IEC EN 62135-1 applies to resistance welding and related processes and includes single and multiple welding stations that can be loaded or started manually or automatically.
This part of IEC EN 62135 specifies electrical safety requirements for design, manufacture and installation. It does not cover all non-electrical safety requirements (eg noise, vibration). This part of IEC EN 62135 does not include the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements of IEC EN 62135-2.
To comply with this standard, all safety risks associated with loading, feeding, operating and unloading equipment, if any, must be evaluated and the requirements of relevant standards must be followed.
Most resistance welding equipment falls under overvoltage category III in accordance with IEC EN 60664-1. All resistance welding equipment shall be designed for use in environmental conditions with a minimum pollution degree of 3.
The design of liquid-cooled equipment must take into account possible condensation, which may require different conditions. Components or sub-assemblies with gaps or leakage distances corresponding to pollution degree 60664 are permitted if they are fully sheathed, embedded or molded according to IEC EN 3-2.
Equipment designed with insulation based on line-to-neutral voltage ratings will be provided with the consideration that such equipment will only be used in a grounded neutral or single supply system, which is a three-phase, four-wire system.
