Saws designed for use as cutting machines with abrasive wheels are covered by IEC EN 62841-2-22. The rated voltage is not more than 250 V for single-phase AC or DC appliances and 480 V for three-phase ac appliances.
This standard deals with the hazards posed by tools that are reasonably foreseeable and encountered by all persons in normal use. Such a combination of power tools, hand tool, and support that can be mounted on a support or workbench for use as a stationary tool without any modification to the tool itself is considered a portable tool.
Circular saws are considered tools that run the risk of accidentally starting up. Power switch trigger and interlock devices, if any, should be located, designed or protected so that accidental actuation is unlikely.
