The UL 1993 standard specifies a set of test criteria to ensure the safe operation of such lamps. These criteria include various factors such as electrical safety of lamps, prevention of fire risks, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), insulation and grounding requirements.
This standard covers self-ballasted lamps and self-ballasted lamp adapters rated for 7 to 120 V AC nominal for connection to screw-based, pin-based or recessed single contact (RSC or R347) sockets.
The standard also sets test requirements to document the performance of lamps and lamp adapters. These tests evaluate various performance characteristics such as lamp life, luminous intensity, color temperature, power factor, vibration and shock resistance.
