There are significant differences between LEDs and other light sources that make it necessary for the CIE to introduce new quantities for their characterization with strictly defined measurement conditions. The new quantities introduced here are "Average LED Intensity" and "Partial LED Flux". It has been shown that substitutional measurements using LED standards can be simpler, but it is important to compare LEDs of similar color or use color correction on measurement results.
