IEC EN 60352-2 Solderless Connections - Part 2: Crimp Connections - General Requirements and Test Methods

In addition to test procedures, information on materials and data from industrial experience are included to ensure electrically stable connections under anticipated environmental conditions.

The purpose of this section of IEC EN 60352 is to determine the conformity of solderless crimped joints under specified mechanical, electrical and atmospheric conditions and to provide a way to compare test results when the tools used to make the connections are of different design or manufacture.

The link will be handled carefully and skillfully in accordance with current good practice.

Crimping tools should be used and inspected in accordance with the tool manufacturer's instructions. The crimping tool must be able to form reliable connections evenly throughout its lifetime. The crimping tool should be equipped with suitable dies. Where the dies are adjustable, the correct setting will be used for the barrel to be curled.

Hand crimping tools will be provided with a full cycle crimping mechanism. Automatic crimping tools shall be provided with a full-loop crimping mechanism or equivalent protection. It must be set correctly and the setting maintained. The tools are evaluated by testing the crimped joints with the tools to be evaluated.

Stranded conductors should be used, solid round conductors with a diameter of 0,25 mm to 3,6 mm can be used if their suitability has been proven. The insulation must be easily stripped from the conductor without changing the physical properties of the conductor or strips, respectively.

A suitable tester should be used to ensure good contact at all measuring points. The tester must ensure that the measuring points are located at fixed predetermined distances. Where test probes are used, they must be sufficiently rounded not to damage the conducting wires.
