IEC EN 60603-3 Connectors for Use with Printed Cards - Part 3: Two Piece Connectors for Printed Cards

It applies to the corresponding group of rectangular, multi-contact, two-piece PCB connectors with male and female contacts in conjunction with soldered or solderless terminations (such as wrap type). All connectors have the same contact spacing using the 2,54 mm (0,100 inch) basic grille.

Free connectors have a relatively new method of connecting the connector to the printed circuit board. It is accomplished by a series of cantilever solder tabs evenly distributed on both sides of the board.

This new method has been adopted to meet the following needs:

• Direct replacement of a socket connector with a two-piece master and daughter board connector paired set without requiring major design changes to the packaging system;
• Easy access to both sides of a board without having to use veneered holes;
• High density packaging with components on both sides of the board without the complication of stepped pins and termination pads.

Polarization is carried out by asymmetrical inserts: Rib and groove. Switching is accomplished by inserting a coding finger into the socket of the appropriate male contact and removing the female contact from the corresponding socket.
