IEC EN 61156-11 describes cables intended to be used for 1 Gbps transmission over a single twisted pair for office, home and industrial application.
The transmission characteristics of these cables are specified up to 600 MHz frequency and 20°C temperature. The recognized cable type is designed for use in shielded ducts with a nominal length of 40 m.
These cables may contain more than one pair if several systems are run in parallel. Cables covered by this standard are intended to operate with voltages and currents normally encountered in communication systems. Although these cables are not intended for use with low impedance sources, such as electrical power supplies of utility grids, they are intended to be used to support the transmission of low voltage remote powering applications.
A splitter can be used to separate the cable elements. Cable elements, including spacers, must be assembled to form the cable core. The core of the cable can be wrapped with a protective layer of a non-hygroscopic and non-wicking material.
The sheath should be continuous and have a uniform thickness as much as possible. A non-metallic ripcord can be provided. When provided, the slit cord will be hygroscopic and without roving.
