This section 2-1 applies to split-winding isolation transformers and power supplies containing split-winding isolation transformers and electronic circuits. This Section 2-1 does not apply to external circuits and their components intended to be connected to the primary terminals, secondary terminals or bases of transformers and power supplies.

This Part 2-1 applies to isolation transformers with separate windings and fixed or mobile supplies, single-phase or multi-phase, air-cooled (natural or forced), independent or associated, with a rated primary voltage not exceeding 1000 V in alternating current. This Section 2-1 applies to power supplies including split-winding isolation transformers and split-winding isolation transformers, without limitation of rated power, if agreed between the purchaser and the manufacturer.

The no-load secondary voltage or the rated secondary voltage does not exceed 1000 V at alternating current or 1415 V at rectified direct current. For individual split-winding isolation transformers and stand-alone power supplies, the no-load secondary voltage or the rated secondary voltage is not less than 50 V alternating current or 120 V smoothed direct current.

The input and output circuits shall be electrically separated from each other and the construction shall be such that there is no possibility of connection between these circuits directly or indirectly via other conductive parts. The insulation between the input and output windings must consist of at least basic insulation.
