IEC 62368-1 Audio, Video, Information and Communications Technology Equipment - Part 1: Safety Requirements

The IEC 62368-1 standard applies to the safety of electrical and electronic equipment in the field of audio, video, information and communication technology and work and office machines with a rated voltage not exceeding 600 V. covers the performance or functional characteristics of the equipment.

IEC 62368-1 Ses, Video, Bilgi ve İletişim Teknolojisi Ekipmanı - Bölüm 1: Güvenlik Gereksinimleri

This standard is a product safety standard that classifies energy sources, specifies protective measures against these energy sources, and provides guidance on the application and requirements of these protections.
The prescribed safety measures are aimed at reducing the possibility of pain, injury and property damage in case of fire.

Besides bringing the scope of the two previous standards under the same roof, IEC 62368-1 represents a significant difference from what a standard normally looks like. Rather than relying on descriptions of requirements, the standard focuses on the risks that may occur and gives manufacturers more room to decide how to design protection.

The standard divides a product's security risk into three levels. Based on this, the standard specifies, for example, what constitutes an acceptable voltage and what kind of protection is required.

For the period up to the effective date of IEC/UL/CSA 62368-1, the three standards will coexist. This means that components tested in both standards under IEC 60065 and IEC 62368 will be accepted. The same applies to IEC 60950 and IEC 62368.

Manufacturers looking to bring products to market will need to meet the requirements of the new IEC 62368-1 standard to ensure compliance. This information is intended to help manufacturers of affected products manage transition and ensure continued compliance by explaining the reasons and management principles of the new standard, built-in provisions to assist with the transition, and how best to ensure procured components such as power supplies.

Hazard-Based Safety Engineering Standard (HBSE)

The single, harmonized standard seeks to create a more future-proof document by requiring manufacturers to demonstrate that known hazards have been taken into account and that their products have been manufactured to be safe for use in the intended environments. In addition, IEC 62368-1 hopes to provide product designers with greater flexibility in their designs and evaluations by keeping up with technology without requiring frequent, expensive and cumbersome revisions.

With the advancement of new technologies and with them new markets, the single, harmonized standard aims to provide a clearer framework for evaluating the safety of new equipment. Therefore, all existing equipment covered by IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60065 will be covered by the new standard, with additional products to be included in its scope.

Our organization, among numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, within the framework of national and international standards, IEC 62368-1 Audio, Video, Information and Communication Technology Equipment - Part 1: Security Requirements provides testing services.
