IEC 60884-2 Plugs and Sockets for Household and Similar Purposes - Part 2: Special Rules Test Standard for Fused Plugs

This part of IEC 60884 applies to fused plugs where fuses are primarily intended to protect the flexible cable or cord. These fuses are not designed to protect devices or parts thereof against overload.

Fused plugs must be marked to show that the plug is fused; this sign can take the form of a symbol. Fused removable plugs must be permanently marked to indicate the maximum current rating of the fuse that can be used with the plug. Marking can be done on the receipt or on a permanently affixed label.

Fused non-removable plugs must be permanently marked to indicate the current rating of the fuse suitable for the attached flexible cable or cord and associated apparatus, as declared by the manufacturer.

Provision must be provided in a fused plug body for a suitable fuse link conforming to IEC 60269-1 and IEC 60269-3 as reasonably applied.

Fuse links must be installed between the contacts fitted to the terminal or termination of the conductor of the flexible cable or cord and the corresponding plug pin. The design of the plugs must be such as to ensure adequate contact with the fuse links when the plug is installed.
