IEC EN 60598-2-8 Luminaires - Part 2-8: Special Requirements - Standard Test Method for Flashlights

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60598-2-8 testing. This part of the IEC EN 60598 series covers specifications for handheld, suspended or standing hand-held torches and similar portable luminaires for use with electric light sources with a supply voltage not exceeding 250 V. Flashlights that can be fixed to a support by means of a thumbscrew, clip or magnet, and luminaires intended for inspection of the inside of the barrel are covered by this part of IEC EN 60598.

IEC EN 60598-2-8 Luminaires - Part 2-8: Special Requirements - Standard Test Method for Flashlights

In the case of a range of similar flashlights, the tests indicated are done on a representative full set from the range. This set will include flashlights with any attachment that represents the most unfavorable combination.

The lamp must be protected against accidental damage by a protective grille, translucent cover or similar protective means. These devices will be rigidly fixed to the body of the flashlight and manual removal of the device will not be possible.

The protective device is used when replacing the lamp, e.g. with a hinge, chain or an equally effective device. If an automatic switch interrupts the luminaire's operation when the protective device is removed for maintenance, the protective device may not be permanently attached to the luminaire.

For flashlights with magnetic ballast for tubular fluorescent lamps, the removal of the protective device should be arranged so that the opening is at the end of the lamp where the lamp holder meets the magnetic ballast.

If the protective device is made of metal, it must be located so that it cannot be accidentally touched while the handle is being held, or it must be protected by insulation. The distance between the glass of a tungsten filament lamp or tubular fluorescent lamp or any protective glass and the plane passing through the outside of the two adjacent bars of the protective grille or protective cover should be at least 3 mm.

The sockets of tungsten filament lamps must be locked against rotation by at least two independent means, at least one of which can only be operated with the aid of a tool. Fixing means must not serve to fix any other part.
